In ancient times, architectural design trumped longevity and regular roofing repairs so as to create gigantic structures the size of which would still be a marvel across the United States from Manassas VA to Los Angeles CA. The largest prop-and-lintel roof ever created was in Athens and covered the Parthenon. The largest truss roof was the Aula Regia, a throne room in Rome.
